Botox in Hot Springs, AR
When injected into a target muscle, botulinum toxin prevents the release of acetylcholine, thereby reducing muscle contraction. This results in muscle relaxation and decreased stiffness which can have desired effects in situations where muscles are uncontrollably tight or in spasm.
The clinic utilizes botulinum toxin to treat chronic migraine headaches, limb spasticity, and cervical dystonia.
Chronic Migraine Headaches
Botox is injected into 7 specific muscle areas around the head and neck to help prevent migraine headaches or migraine attacks before they start. Areas injected include the forehead, the bridge of the nose, the temples, the neck, the back of the head, and just above the shoulder blades in the upper back.
Limb Spasticity and Cervical Dystonia
Unlike oral treatments, Botox is administered directly into specific muscles, helping to reduce the stiffness and tightness caused by spasticity. Botox helps minimize the tightening of muscles which can improve walking and the use of an arm or leg.
These injections usually last about 3 months and can provide significant pain relief as well as improved range of motion in the arms, legs, and neck.
Our clinic uses EMG guidance to ensure the correct and most active parts of the muscles are being injected to optimize the patient’s response to the injections.
